Lan Stands for Local Area Network. it is your group of computers at home or the work place that are all linked together through the network. you can generally access files on eachothers computers, play games, or run programs through this network. a lan is pretty much your the internet on a local scale.
If you want to connect to another person outside your network through the internet you can generally open a port on your firewall, and share an IP. This ip Isnt always the easiest thing to find.
Generally its easier to find your local IP address. The IP your network assigns to you.
If using a wireless computer some times tcp connections do not work. This is one of MANY ways hamachi can come in use. Hamachi Takes all the guess work, and time out of connecting to your friends. Hamachi creates a virtual lan. easy and fast.

Here are the steps:
Step 1: Download Hamachi
Step 2: Join a network
well thats pretty much it, now you may do what you wish. play games that should only be played over LAN or share files, or what ever else you decide to to.
When installing hamachi change the computer name (it will ask) to your "user name" what ever you want it to be.
when hamachi starts cancel the tutorial by hitting the X in the top right of that window.
Press the power button on the bottom of the hamachi window.
Click the triangle button (network) and create a network for you and your friends, or join a network.

Install Hamachi & Let it Open

Click Network from the menu list

Enter Network ID or Name and click Join

Right Click And Copy Address of people you want to play, Use that as you would generally would with octgn
